Different Types of Compost Bins & Tumblers
There are many different types and styles of compost bins that you can choose from. A lot of people get confused with all the options that are out there, but choosing a compost bin really isn’t that difficult. You just need to learn what is available, and then you will be able to decide what will suit your needs the best.

The first thing you need to decide is whether you are going to build your composter or buy one. There is a lot of debate on what is better, and it really comes down to money and personal preference. Building a compost bin is not difficult, and can be done with very little money. The drawbacks are that it won’t be sophisticated, and you will most likely have to turn your compost with the use of a shovel or pitchfork.

If you prefer, you can buy a compost bin that is ready to go as soon as you get it. Price is usually the biggest drawback to these. Also, if it is a very new design, it may not work as well as the manufacturer claims. Getting a composter that is overly complicated may cause complications in the process.

Keep in mind that composting is a very natural, simple process. If you mess with that process too much, it could just make everything more difficult.

Basically a composter should have plenty of room for you to work and turn the compost, should provide plenty of air to the waste, and should be easy to water.

Some people like the workout they get when they are turning their compost, and so they like having a simple setup that requires that use of a shovel or pitchfork.

If you are going to build your own composter, many people like using pallets for the bottom and sides of the composter and lining it with chicken wire. But this is just one of the hundreds of styles of homemade composters you can choose from.

On the other hand, if you would like to cut some of the work involved out of the turning process, you can buy a composter that has been set up to turn the compost with the use of a crank. This can be very useful for those who don’t have the strength to be turning it by hand, or would just like to speed up the turning part of the routine.

Also, these turning composters generally smell better because they allow more aeration. So if you want as little smell coming from your composter as possible, you may want to consider getting one of these.

If you want to go as simple as you possibly can with this process, you could just create a pile of vegetation in an out-of-the-way spot. This is the most basic way to make compost, but it isn’t controlled very nicely and it’s easy to make a mess with a loose pile. Having some sort of composter to keep everything where you want it is a good idea.

Once you have the right composter, you will be able to fill it up and start making great compost to help your plants grow large and productive.
